Is
"cream" really the color of your sofa? Many
times a customer
will describe something in their home as cream-colored when actually, it's
ivory.
Cream has a yellow base and ivory has a beige or brown base. When these
colors
are mixed with white, you get totally different results. When choosing colors
for
a new purchase--whether you're trying to match something or introduce a
different
color, it's important to accurately communicate the existing colors in your
home.
So, maybe you're wondering whether the pink in the powder room is really
pink--
maybe it's actually lilac or mauve, or, you've heard taupe is a great neutral,
but
"what in the world is taupe!?" Let me help! If you are unsure,
then I would be
happy to meet with you at your home to determine some appropriate decorating
approaches. |

"I
know it's old, but..." We
often have customers who wish to have new
carpet or drapery, but want to keep a vintage upholstered piece, such as
a favorite
chair, in the same room. New selections for this room will present a special
challenge. We want the customer to like the carpet or fabrics we helped
them
choose, but we also need to make sure that favorite old chair looks its
best!
On its own, it may be just fine, but putting a NEW piece of carpeting or
fabric
in the same room may may end up giving the old piece an even older look
than
intended!
Selecting carpet and fabric to blend with existing older pieces may mean
choosing
softer shades than originally desired. Sometimes, though, that is just the
ticket
to help a vintage piece keep its youthful look and retain its "favorite"
status! |

It's
not just about color. Sometimes
the best element to introduce
is an interesting texture or woven-in pattern, or even a print! This is
especially
true when you have a beautiful, leather sofa or some of the new chenille
fabrics.
If going wall-to-wall with carpet, think about adding a friezed yarn or
one of the
new variegated yarns that imitate goat hair, or, choose a nubby texture
of a tweedy,
looped berber. These are wonderful contrasts to the smoothness of leather
and
chenille. |
